dedicated Virtual private server (vps)
Your site is directly tied to your business or organization. If your site is slow or not working for any reason, it can negatively impact your business. Flywheel places the hosting of your site on a dedicated virtual private server (VPS), whereas shared hosting is just that: a shared server. Although shared hosting is an effective method for hosting websites, we have found over the years that secure hosting without the issues that can accompany shared hosting, is worth the peace of mind.
A shared server means that your site is directly tied to a large pool of other sites, perhaps upward to 100 or more, and can be affected by any one of them. For example, if another site on that server encounters a larger than expected increase in traffic due to publicity or even a DDOS attack, your site could also be affected or go down.
When your site is hosted on Flywheel, you can rest assured that no other website’s traffic or issues can disrupt your site’s performance or impact your business.
Shared hosts install as many sites as possible onto one server. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just the nature of shared hosting and it enables many hosting companies to keep the costs down for it’s customers. Generally shared hosting is secure however it does have it’s drawbacks. One of the most troublesome is that should one site on the server become compromised, it’s possible for it to affect others.
With managed hosting, every website hosted with Flywheel is “self-contained”, meaning it’s isolated from other websites they host. Should an issue occur with another website, your website will be unaffected. Flywheel has fine-tuned their servers for optimal WordPress performance. They have also configured all the caching, which means caching plugins or spending time worrying about site speed are no longer an issue.
With shared hosting you’ll need ensure your website is backed up and protected from the latest malware or hacker attempts, such as brute force attacks. Plus, you’ll be concerned about what will happen not if, but when your site is compromised.
Flywheel researches the latest security vulnerabilities and will keep you or us, informed on threats and proactively block them whenever possible. It minimizes the possibility your site will be compromised and should that occur, Flywheel will provide the recovery at no charge.
With Flywheel managed WordPress hosting, you have support via live chat, phone, or email. When you call, you’ll get a real-live human on the other end and they are available 24/7 for emergencies. If you have any technical questions, they’re staffed with WordPress experts. Of course 54 Design Group will still be working with you closely on your website but having this next level of support can really provide some solid peace of mind.
Flywheel’s platform is built to create a better workflow between us and our clients. After we have completed the design and development of your WordPress website we will configure it to go live. Once we’re set we will transfer the billing for the hosting of your website to you. From that point on you will pay for your hosting directly to Flywheel and retain full ownership of your website. Flywheel compensates us with a small commission that does not affect your cost.
With an annual or monthly maintenance agreement, 54DG will remain on the site as a “collaborator” so we can easily monitor, update, or upgrade website plugins and content on your site as needed.
